Opera Talk: Falstaff (Virtual)

1:00 PM - 2:15 PM
Bloomfield Public Library
Virtual

Event Details

Verdi, never the most cheerful of souls, became increasingly somber during his later years. The subject matter of his operas is a reflection of his darker side. Twenty-six of his twenty-eight operas are tragedies. “Falstaff,” his last work for the stage, goes against character. It is comic, light-hearted and unlike anything he had previously composed.

Jeffrey Engel will detail “Falstaff’s” plot, background history and play some musical excerpts.
