When Black screenwriters, filmmakers, and directors are given the power to shape the narrative, audiences gain a viewing experience that was largely omitted in the history of cinema. How does this power change whose stories are told and the ways in which they are told? How do “classic” tropes change in genres such as horror, sci-fi, and superhero stories? And how has the way that we consume media in the age of streaming affected this perspective?
