Group Reading from the anthology, Waking Up to the Earth: Connecticut Poets in a Time of Global Climate Crisis - features 6 CT poets: Aaron Caycedo-Kimura, Luisa Caycedo-KImura, Pegi Deitz Shea, David K. Leff, Rennie McQuilkin, and Tom Nicotera. The anthology, published in 2021 by Grayson Books, was edited by CT State Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson. Poets will read their anthology poems plus other Nature-based poems. Aaron Caycedo-Kimura is author of Ubasute (Slapering Hol Press, 2021) and the forthcoming Common Grace (Beacon Press, 2022) and is a recipient of a Robert Pinsky Global Fellowship. Luisa Caycedo-Kimura is a Colombian-born writer, translator, and educator, a recipient of the Robert Pinsky Global Fellowship, a member of the Hill-Stead Museum's Poetry Advisory Committee, an editor of Connecticut River Review, and a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee. Pegi Detiz Shea, a two-time winner of the CT Book Award, is the author of more than 450 works, including works for adult readers and award-winning books for young readers. She has taught at UCONN, The Institute for Children's Literature and the Mark Twain House. She is Vernon's inaugural Poet Laureate and directs the Poetry Rocks reading series there. David K. Leff is Poet Laureate of Canton, CT, and the author of 6 nonfiction books, 3 poetry volumes, and 2 novels in verse and served as poet-in-residence for the New England Trail by appointment of the National Park Service. Rennie McQuilkin served as CT Poet Laureate from 2015-2018. He co-founded the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival, which he directed for 9 years. He is the author of several poetry collections and has received a number of awards including the CT Center for the Book’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Tom Nicotera is the coordinator of Bloomfield Library's Wintonbury Poetry Series and is the author of What Better Place To Be than Here? (Foothills Publishing, 2016).
