Take-Home Kits: ORIGAMI CIRCUITS (While Supplies Last)

Bring your paper crafts to life with this engaging take-home STEM kit from Brown Dog Gadgets! Kits are available for pick-up at BPL...while supplies last! Best for ages 10 and up.

By adding LEDs and self-sticking motors you'll be able to create 3D paper craft projects that move, light up, and blink! This is a great way to explore art, design, engineering, and basic electronics. Create your own project from scratch or use one of many free projects and templates. 

These kits include everything you need to get started: self sticking vibrating motors, 10mm Jumbo LEDs as well as naturally blinking red LEDs, nylon conductive Maker Tape, etc. You can even take things one step further and use Maker Tape on a shirt or fabric based project for a simple wearable project!

The video with sewing instructions will be available for the month of July 2023 [The link will be located below in this description when ready and available.] Please note that all kits have been distributed, but a simple supply list is included in the instruction sheet linked below.

Decorate Rocks for the BPL Atrium!

In honor of Smoky the Bear‘s 80th Birthday, BPL will have take-and-make kits with a beautiful brown bear available for all ages, kids through teens. Kits are available to pick up at the BPL Atrium starting on Aug. 5, 2024. While supplies last.

Invasive Species Hands-On Workshop

Celebrate Earth Month with us! Former executive director of the Knox Foundation, Ron Pitz, brings us an in-person interactive workshop on invasive species in our Connecticut landscapes. Recommended dress: long pants and gloves. Bring water, insect repellant, and any cutting and digging tools you have along with your fun spirit to join your fellow residents in tackling some of these plants at Hawk Hill (22 Duncaster Rd), a Wintonbury Land Trust site. You will walk away feeling confident in knowing how to identify and remove some of these harmful plants taking over our backyards and natural spaces while getting social and physical exercise.


This program is provided in partnership with Vic Herson and the Wintonbury Land Trust. Please register to ensure the event will not be canceled. You will be notified by email in the event of cancellation due to rain or low turnout.

Great Decisions: Climate Migration (Virtual)

Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs.  It is sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association (www.fpa.org). The program involves reading material from the Great Decisions briefing book (articles will be supplied by Bloomfield Public Library, either electronic or print) and watching a video (during the virtual program) and meeting in a discussion group to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today.  This is a series that runs from January until May it is not necessary to attend all of the sessions. 

This program is a partnership between Bloomfield Public Library and Seabury. This program may be recorded and shared with the library's social media channels and community partners. Be aware if you turn on your video and/or speak during the program, you may be recorded. Your Zoom name may also be recorded.

Pia is the Owner and Director of Wabi-Sabi Yoga and Wellness Center in Windsor Locks, CT. Through yoga, meditation and breath work she believes healing happens from the inside out.  Her Gentle Yoga Class is a true representation of the Eight Limbs of Yoga! We will start with Meditation and breath work followed by seated postures and standing postures with the assistance of a chair.

Caregiver Support Group/Healing Hearts (Senior Center)

 If you are a caregiver or are coping with the loss of a loved one, we invite you to join us at 1:30 pm on the first Wednesday of each month at the Bloomfield Senior Center.  Assuming responsibility for the care of a family member with health or memory problems often begins with the challenge of learning our way through the healthcare system. Sadly, but not infrequently, it progresses to learning about the grief process. It often helps to talk and share with others who have had similar experiences. Facilitators are Social Worker Lucille Morisse & Librarian Mara Whitman.

In partnership with the crew from Tabletop Gaming Center (Newington, CT), this D&D club is perfect for beginners (and any teens looking to expand their gameplay to another group). 

Registration is required. Dice and other supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own supplies.

This program will meet in-person at the Prosser location in the Children's Room (1 Tunxis Avenue).
