DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)\, and the BPL Social Justice Book Club\, join us for a lively discussion of Heavy by Kiese Laymon. Books are available at Prosser (860-243-9721) and McMahon Wintonbury (860-242-0041). Call us to reserve your copy. Limited space available. \;\n\nLaymon writes eloquently and honestly about the physical manifestations of violence\, grief\, trauma\, and abuse on his own body. He writes of his own eating disorder and gambling addiction as well as similar issues that run throughout his family. Through self-exploration\, storytelling\, and honest conversation with family and friends\, Heavy seeks to bring what has been hidden into the light and to reckon with all of its myriad sources\, from the most intimate--a mother-child relationship--to the most universal--a society that has undervalued and abused black bodies for centuries.\n\nYou must provide your email address at registration to receive the Zoom link. Your Registration Confirmation Notice includes the Zoom link for the program. All participants will start with video off and sound muted. No computer/internet at home? Join us over the phone! Call the library for meeting ID and passcode information.\nImage URL: https://s3.amazonaws.com/static.evanced.info/Customer/bplct/HEAVY_E2612878.JPG
